A wide variety of plants are classified into the taxon of herbs, which is determined by the physical characteristics such as the short height, or stature, the stem, as well as spread of the leaves. The Cherokee Bean, or Erythrina herbacea, forms part of the pea family of flowering plants, which has a high volume of phytoconstituents like alkaloids, as well as an array of biological applications like range of, such as being anti-inflammatory, an anti-depressant, and cytotoxic. (Gabr et al. 2019) Essentially, the Erythrina herbacea, due to being part of the pea family, means that the plant has a low-sitting stature, due to having less rigid structuring of the shoot system. Furthermore, the plant produces peas that are developed, or produced, in pods, which means that the plants require lesser volumes of hard tissue in the stems to support the weight of the maturing peas. As such, acknowledging that plants are characterized according to their physical structure as well as type of reproductive mechanism, the Erythrina herbacea is representative of herbs in the pea family, due to being shorter in height and producing beans.
