Cendrowski A, Scibisz I, Kieliszek M, Kolniak-Ostek J, Mitek M. 2017. UPLC-PDA-Q/TOF-MS profile of polyphenolic compounds of liqueurs from rose petals (rosa rugosa). Molecules 22(11):1832.
Roses are plants of a short stature that produce flowers with a different number of petals that vary among species as part of the shoot system, which is normally the most noticeable and profound part of the flora. The Rosa rugosa sequesters a high volume of phenolic constituents in every region of the plant, which are valuable substances in the formulation of medicines that are effective at preventing chronic, degenerative diseases. (Cendrowski et al. 2017) The petals of the Rosa rugosa is the part of the plant that has a high concentration of hydrolysable tannins, that is, ellagitannins, that have properties that inhibit the functioning of the human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) reverse transcriptase. (Cendrowski et al. 2017) Even further, extracts from the Rugosa Rose have constituents that are used in the development and production of various types of distilled spirits and food flavorings. (Cendrowski et al. 2017) Thus, though being a plant species of miniature size, the Rosa rugosa contains chemical components and properties that are worthwhile in the manufacturing of different drugs used in the field of medicine for treatment of diseases as well as the production of food substances for domestic, everyday usage.
