The Goldshower, Galphimia glauca, is a small evergreen, flowering herbaceous plant belonging to the Malpighiaceae family that is endemic to Mexico and typically grows in the tropical climatic regions (Gesto-Borroto et al 2019). The Goldshower were extensively used in Mexican traditional medicine for the treatment of domestic conditions due to having antiallergic, antiasthmatic, as well as anxiolytic properties (Sharma et al. 2018). The medicinal properties of the Galphimia glauca occur from the presence of bioactive chemicals that include flavonoids, triterpenoids, and phenolics, noting that the triterpenoids and flavonoids contain antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory, and gastroenteric compounds (Sharma et al. 2018). Notably, phytochemical compounds found in the plant species perform biological activities that are highly correlated with their structure, noting that the substances contribute to major cell signaling and metabolic pathways as well as affect enzyme and protein functions. As such, the Galphimia glauca, through sequestering several phytochemicals, serves an array of purposes in traditional medicine for countering anxiety, gastrointestinal issues, and inflammation, considering too the plant can alter enzyme processes, thereby impacting protein translation.

Summary 3

The Galphimia glauca is a small evergreen, herbaceous shrub of the Malpighiaceae family of plants that is endemic to Mexico growing up to 4 meters tall, while others form treelets that reach heights of 6 meters. The plant species grows in tropical climatic regions and is the most complex and distinct of its genus, recognizing that the plants carries from 12 to 24 chromosomes.
