The Bauhinia purpurea is a woody tree of notably tall stature that is characterized by overly broad, palmately-lobed leaves, noting that the flora species produces dry, elongated fruits that resemble legumes. The orchid tree has been widely used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, which is a medical condition that starts in the synovial joints and progresses to friction between the bone and the cartilage. (Kumar, Dogra, and Prakash 2009) Generally, the Orchid tree produces a hydroalcoholic extract that is sequestered at the bark, and the crude product can be harvested and purified for use in the formulation of different types of medicines for the treatment of chronic inflammation. The substance has been effective in drugs that have an anti-inflammatory, given that treatments with the extract are able to counteract and/or inhibit the effects of the serum cytokines, which have a role in the induction of arthritis. As such, the Bauhinia purpurea, which grows within the temperate and tropical climatic regions, produces the hydroalcoholic extract that has been utilized in development of medicines for the treatment of chronic arthritis.
