Fiddleheads:
Fronds: evergreen, 40 inches long and to 8 inches wide, lance-oblong in outline, twice compound, leaflets lobed, sometimes divided almost to mid-nerve, toothed, teeth with bristle tip, veins forked
Spores: in groups which are; on underside of leaf, circular, arranged in a row on each side of mid-vein on leaflet lobe, with translucent tissue that partly covers spores and is attached on inner curve and has glandular hairs
Fruiting season: Summer
Height: 15-40 inches
Habitat: moist rocky woods, ravines, edges of swamps
