Flower: Odd shaped, spike
Leaves: basal, sword-like, 2 to 6 feet long, ½ inch wide, bright green, off-center midvein that is slightly swollen in cross-section, base of leaves typically white or tinged red, leaves sweetly fragrant when broken
Fruit/Seed: tiny capsule, inverted pyramid in shape, containing 2 or 3 seeds, dry and brown
Height: 2-6 feet
Flowering: June - July
Habitat: Ponds, lakes, marshes
