• Flower: Purple odd shaped
• Leaves: compound in groups of 4 to 8 pairs, tendril at end of leaf, leaflets narrowly egg-shaped to elliptic may have rounded, blunt or pointed tips. Toothless, hairless, becoming smaller towards the end of the leaf
• Fruit/Seed: pea-shaped pod, 1 inch long, turns from green to reddish brown as it ripens, contains average of 10 seeds
• Height: 1-3 feet, vine
• Flowering: May - September
• Habitat: fields, prairies, open woods, thickets, along roads
