Description ²

• Shape: Small shrub
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
• Flower: Green/pink elongated cluster
• Leaves: palmately lobed, 3-5 primary lobes, 1 ½-3 ½ inches long, 2-4 inches wide, coarsely toothed, prominent veins
• Bark: smooth, reddish brown, thin outer layer peels away
• Fruit/Seed: shiny, smooth, bright red berry ¼-3/8 inch in diameter
• Height: 1-3 feet
• Flowering: May - June
• Habitat: bogs, coniferous woods, stream banks, seeps
