CAP 1/2 to 4 inches broad, cone-shaped, smooth, slightly viscid but soon dry and smooth, silky and then not appearing viscid, scarlet or orange or yellow, sometimes with greenish tinges, soon blackening; flesh thin, fragile, same color as the surface. ODOR and TASTE not special. GILLS very narrowly attached (nearly free), broad, thick, pale yellow-orange or yellow with an olive tinge. STEM 2 to 8 inches long, 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick, fragile, satiny-shining, longitudinally streaked, red, orange, yellow, or with a greenish tinge. PL.
