CAP 1-3 cm, dry, broadly convex to uplifted, at first with conic umbo, white or with tinge of pale tan or yellowish, striate; flesh fragile, whitish. ODOR cedar (arborvitae). TASTE medicinal or almost like cedar. GILLS decurrent, distant, broad, white, interveined. STEM 3-6 x 0.5-0.8 cm, dry, narrowing downward or more or less equal, white, may be twisted or curved. MICROSTRUCTURES spores 7-10 x 4.5-6 microns; IW.
REMARKS cedarlike odor is main distinctive feature: at times so faint as to be almost indistinct, but in these specimens medicinal taste can be used to identify species.
