CAP 3/8 to 1 1/4 inch broad, convex then shallowly concave in the center, scarlet when wet, fading to orange then yellow upon losing moisture, but becoming red again when re-moistened; flesh thin, orange. ODOR and TASTE mild. GILLS decurrent, pale dingy yellow, broad, distant. STEM 1 to 2 1/4 inches long, 1/8 to 3/16 inch thick, orange, satiny, with top and base paler.
