Common Wall Lizard

Podarcis muralis

Identification 5

The shape of the body and head is unique resembling an arrowhead from above. Colouring on the sides is represented by a brown, black and white-blue stripe runing from head to tail. Males can display a variety of colours. As they sometimes can have green spots all over with blue head or be utterly brown. The animal itself is larger than our common and viviparous lizards.

Behaviour & Ecology 5

This is the rarest find in Czech nature, considering all reptiles anad amphibians as it lives only on few sites in Northern Moravia. The sites include abandoned quarries and a castle ruin as it requires completely exposed rocky sites. I must discourage you from trying to catch them as you might injure the animal due to tail autotomy or yourself given the steep slopes the lizard inhabits.

Identifikace (CZ) 5
