Lesser Goldfinch

Spinus psaltria

Notes 5

These act and look very much like House Finches, and the two species seem to hang out together on power lines quite often. Lesser Goldfinches have less streaking overall, no streaks on their fronts, and are tinted with yellow on their entire heads and undersides (the yellow can be bright or dull). Adult males are brighter yellow and have black caps. Often heard, with little "tchweeee. chup chup chup" calls: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Lesser_Goldfinch/id
