Trichonephila clavipes is the only species of the genus Trichonephila indigenous to continental North and South America. In the United States, it is commonly known as the "banana spider".
Previously Nephila clavipes. Beautiful, abundant spider that has silk that shines gold in the right light. Silk is extremely strong, stronger than average silk and 8x stronger than steel. Males extremely smaller than females. Mate while she is busy feeding. Gentle giants.
