Nom français: Mésange à tête noire
These small birds are winter warriors and have many brilliant adaptations to survive the cold season:
• Their brains swells in the fall, growing new brain cells and connections, to remember where they've hidden all the seeds they will use as food source in the winter.
• They spend the night shivering by contracting their muscles in a special way that generates enough heat to get through the colder nights.
The 'chickadee call' is to draw their friends' attention to something, their song is a two note 'cheese burgerrrr' or 'hey sweetie'.
They roam in mixed flocks with other birds and are very territorial.
