Bigfoot Waterclover

Marsilea macropoda

Introduction 6

Who knew finding a four-leaved clover would be so easy? Water Clovers are a common denizen of wet sands and mud, often forming extensive mats of their large, bright green leaves. Although the resemble the familiar clovers in the Fabaceae family, they are in fact more closely related to ferns, propagating by spores instead of flowers and seeds. The Bigfoot Waterclover is an endemic of Texas, found from the coastal Rio Grande Plains to Victoria, Austin, and the edge of the Edward's Plateau.

Habitat 6

Found in mud or sandy soil and water of swamps, marshes, woodland bogs, ditches, streams, and on the edges of ponds and lakes.
