Two-striped Grasshopper

Melanoplus bivittatus

Identification 5

A large robust grasshopper with two cream stripes on the pronotum that extend onto the wings. Difficult to confuse with any other species except the very rare Paratylotropidia brunneri of southeast Iowa. That species usually has very short wings, the stripes are more narrow, and the outer face of the femur is different.
