The Eastern Chipmunk, Tamias striatus, is a small member of the squirrel family (Sciuridae). They can be identified by their small size and coloration. Chipmunks have reddish-brown fur on their back and sides, and white fur on the stomach. They have a white stripe bordered by black on each side of the body, and one black stripe on the center of the back. Chipmunks will often run with their tail held straight up, which can be useful for identifying them in night photos with no color.
