The Baltimore Oriole, Icterus galbula, is a brightly-colored member of the blackbird family. Orioles are fairly common in Western New York. They are slightly smaller than an American Robin and have a relatively long, pointed bill with a thick base. Males and females differ considerably in color. Adult males are bright orange and black, with a black head and a single white bar on their black wings. Females and immature males are yellowish-orange on the breast and grayish on the head and back, with two bold white wing bars. Immature females have a grayish back with faint streaking and white wingbars, a pale yellow wash on the head, breast, and tail.
