The American marten (Martes americana) is yellowish-brown in color and about two feet in length. The head and body will be lighter coloration than the lower body and limbs. It has a slender body like a weasel, round ears, shorter limbs and a bushy tail. In Utah the species can be seen in high remote mountain ranges. They prefer forest habitats where they can build dens in areas like, hollow logs, trees, stumps and rock crevices. They are not found in Iron County.

The American marten (Martes americana) is a North American member of the family Mustelidae, sometimes referred to as the pine marten. The name "pine marten" is derived from the common but distinct Eurasian species of Martes. It differs from the fisher (Martes pennanti) in that it is smaller in size.
