The desert cottontail (Sylvilagus audubonii), also known as Audubon's cottontail, can be found in Iron County as well as most of Utah in desert areas to the lower slopes of mountains. Their fur can be colored brownish or grayish with a white underside. Cottontails can grow up to 16 inches long and have relatively small ears. They are ususally active from late afternoon throughout the night.
