Description ²

The grey long-eared bat is one of Britain's rarest mammals. It is very similar in appearance to the brown long-eared bat (Plecotus auritus), and was only rediscovered in Central Europe in 1960. As the common names of both species suggests, these bats have strikingly large ears. The grey long-eared bat has long grey fur; the belly is paler. The eyes are fairly large, the nose and upper lip are greyish to black, and the ears and wing membranes are blackish in colour.
