Cervus canadensis

Summary 2

The American Elk or Wapiti is the larger of Wisconsin's deer species. It historically occurred through much of the state but was extirpated by 1900. The current populations are a result of reintroduction programs. It can be told from the White-tailed Deer by its much larger size, dark mane, and white rump.

Sawyer, Jackson, and Monroe Counties.
