The moonrat (Echinosorex gymnura) is a species of mammal in the family Erinaceidae. It is the only species in the genus Echinosorex. They are small, largely carnivorous animals which, despite their name, are not closely related to rats or other rodents. The species name is sometimes given as E. gymnurus, but this is incorrect.
