Bird was found dead on the deck of a house. Possibly window strike. The bird was in good condition, didn't appear to have any obvious injuries. It has been gifted to Auckland Museum for the natural sciences collection.

Cuckoo in the garden again, calling and preening. I think two were present before flying away.
Two birds calling and preening in and around a residential garden near native bush. The birds spent at least 3hrs at the location.
Observed a fledgling Shining cuckoo following a foraging Grey warbler. The fledgling made a constant high-pitched peeping noise as it followed the 'parent'.

This pipiwharauroa fledgling was sitting on a low branch in the bushes behind the houses on the Clarevale Loop Track. The riroriro greywarbler parent was flitting about close by.

A flock of at least 9 Shining Cuckoo along the coast near Opua, New Zealand
Shining cuckoo - seemed to be calling in a persistent 'begging call' while remaining hidden in kanuka. It moved quite frequently so I couldn't get a good photo. I glimpsed a grey warbler around it - once possibly feeding it. The shining cuckoo looked fully fledged.

This shining cuckoo was on the beach on driftwood. It was clearly identifiable as a shining cuckoo although not so clear in the photo. It was thought by some observers to be injured or possibly battered by the storm that morning, as it wasn't moving far. However it did fly away.
Taken 7.15 pm at The Groynes Christchurch. There was a pair of them.
Seen in the Tanekaha by our house calling and calling after arriving from its migration to New Zealand.
They generally arrive in Old Mill Lane on the 14th to 18th September from the South Pacific Islands.
Feeding on wineberries (Aristotelia serrata).
I finally heard my first shining cuckoo of the season, singing from Cracroft Reserve this morning, first just the repetitive rising calls, then the distinctive falling trill.
