Today is the beginning of the Athens, Georgia species ID project! This project is tracking all of the biodiversity that is observed in the Clarke county region and is designed to highlight the variety of species we have present in the area over time. Feel free to record observations of anything you find, but preferences should be given to things found in the wild, ie not cultivated. This could include invasive species, but we want to know if they are here too! It is best to not include your houseplants or your dog though, as that won't help us keep track of local flora and fauna very well.

I found this guy in my driveway. He had been injured and was not doing well. I posted this information on iNaturalist and someone identified it as a toothy skink. I have never seen one before. This must be a younger individual because it has a blue tail. Adults usually lose their tail color as they age.
