I went on a hike yesterday in a local park. I had found both C. formosus and C. subalbidus there before. I was not expecting the sheer amount of C. subalbidus. In all corners of the park, you could see them popping up alongside the trails. Beautiful clusters of them everywhere! It compelled me to go and buy a dehydrator, because there is no way I would be able to use all of these mushrooms in one sitting. Marking my calendar; September 1st, 2024; that’s the chanterelle day!

I could have taken more, but I had to restrain myself. In no world would I need that many. At one point it kinda just felt like stealing - I mean, there right there! How could no-one have already harvested them! If there’s this many now, I can only imagine how many there will be come October-November.

A walk in the park revealed quite a lot of suprises today - contrary to what I was expecting. I found a Russula brevipes, but for some reason I didn’t take pictures! What I did image, however ,were loads of chanterelles! The star of today’s show in particular was C. subalbidus, a species I had not seen until this point. Hopefully it makes a nice side for some salmon. Three new patches in one day. Crazy!

Im not sure how to keep the privacy of these patches hidden while maintaining a proper location for the observation. All of my observations from today are labeled as “obscured” in order to keep some semblance of secrecy.

Why are there so many?! I saw like, 20 today. They must like this weather we’re having or something, because the only other explanation is that someone is summoning them somehow.

Rock Quarry road NW is private. Went to Dickerson Creek instead, hoping to find some woodland morels. 6 miles total, came up empty handed. Of course, on the drive out, I saw a beautiful morel growing in someone’s lawn. Nature is cruel.
