Sand Prairies

What a great summer it has been exploring the nearby sand prairies. The diversity of life is truly remarkable, with countless small wonders to appreciate. The milkweeds attract a variety of insects, creating vibrant mini-ecosystems. Monarda punctata, with its unique yellowish and spotted flowers, and whirls of whitish and green leaves, adds to the visual spectacle, while Opuntia cespitosa fills the landscape with its hardy and spiny presence, and with gorgeous flowers.

Hearing the calls of Green Winged Cicadas adds an auditory dimension to the experience. Catching a female cicada was a unique highlight, providing a closer look at these fascinating insects. The sand prairies offer a rich tapestry of life, full of discoveries at every turn.
